Testimonials
Ted Johnson, NY :
I was first introduced to the IDO center by a friend of mine who swore by their professionalism in the field of herbal medicine. After a detailed consultation by Kampo specialist, Yuko, I decided to give the Chinese herbs a chance. Before taking the powdered remedy Yuko prescribed my allergies were out of control. Sneezing uncontrollably every time the weather changed, asthmatic tendencies near my friend’s animals, and constant sinus headaches, but within just a few weeks of my herbal regiment my symptoms subsided, and since then I’ve been allergy free. Thank you Ido for making it easier for me to enjoy the day.
Ann Steinberg, NJ :
My job is so stressful. With the economy so bad people at work are always afraid of losing their job which in turn affects my productivity. The stress got so bad that I began losing my appetite, sleeping less and less, and having powerful craps more frequently. As the problem got worse I began to seek ways to help myself, and that’s when I discovered the IDO Holistic Center. Everyone there was extremely nice and understanding. After a detailed consultation by the staff I was recommended some herbal remedies known as Kampo. One spoonful before bed twice a week for a few weeks not only helped me sleep better, but made me feel more awake in the morning. Now my stress levels are controlled and life doesn’t seem so hard to manage. Thanks IDO.
John Anderson, CA :
My wife was having severe menstrual cramps and it seemed like there was nothing I could do to help her. We tried going to doctors and specialists, but all they told us was that she has a pre-disposition to powerful cramps and not much can be done. Unwilling to accept this answer I went on a hunt for other forms of treatment which led me to the Ido Holistic center. I had read somewhere that Chinese herbal medicines have been effective in combating severe cramps. After a visit to Ido my wife was prescribed a Kanpo remedy that helped her with some of the pain. Now things are a great deal more manageable and I owe it all to Ido, and not being afraid to try new things.
Herbal medicine known as Kampo first hit Japan 1400 years, and since then Herbal practitioners have accumulated, organized and systemized an array of unique formulas that have successfully treated various ailments for centuries. “Kampo” a combination of “Kan,” another name for the Han-Dynasty in China, and “Ho,” meaning “way of treatment,” refers to herbs prepared in accordance with traditional Herbal medicine. Kampo treatments often combine medicinal herbs that exist in nature, such as leaves, flowers, buds, stems, branches, plant roots, as well as fungi and minerals. All herbs and other ingredients are tested for safety and effectiveness before being processed into forms that are easy for consumers to store and transport. Herbal remedies are then produced by fusing together several types of herbs in accordance with a patient’s particular medical condition and individual body make-up.
Kampo herbal regiments are formulated on a case-by-case basis with one goal in mind: balance. Unlike Western medicine ideology, herbal medicine laws identify illness as the patient’s deviation from a balanced way of life. Upon visiting the Ido Holistic Center a trained Herbal specialist will determine your health through a series of tests based on the concept “sho,” which involves seeing, hearing, touching, smelling, and questioning followed by a physical examination. Signs and symptoms are then interpreted according to the ancient theories of the 8 disease states (2 of which are yin and yo, called ying and yang in Chinese medicine)and the 3 substances (such as qi, the life energy of the unified body and spirit.) The herbal regiment is then determined by the results your “sho” evaluation. While may take several sessions with your herbal specialist and some mild adjustments to the herbal remedy the main objective is to help you return and maintain a balanced existence.
All of this sounds great, but is Kampo really safe? Yes, in fact, by 1976 the Japanese government gave official approval to 82 herbal prescriptions of the Kampo system; all of which could be purchased under Japan’s National Health Insurance System and are available as over-the-counter remedies. In addition, the Japanese Department of Pharmaceutical Affairs of the Ministry of Health and Welfare approved 210 herbal formulas (including the 82 already mentioned) for use in medical facilities. The long history of herbal usage was citied as sufficient evidence for their safety. Today, 148 prescriptions are covered by Japan’s National Health Insurance and more than half of them are the focus of modern Kampo practice.
